The Method Manual

The METHOD MANUAL is an attempt to clarify, simplify and demystify the techniques taught to Ed Kovens, in Lee Strasberg’s private classes from 1957 thru 1969. ED KOVENS is particularly qualified to write this book. For it was Mr. Kovens understanding of these principles that led Mr. Strasberg to employ him as one of the founding staff members of The Lee Strasberg Theatrical Institute in 1969, until he left in 1974 to form his own private class The Professional Workshop. As a lifetime member of the Actors Studio (since 1968) he continued studying with Mr. Strasberg, until Mr. Strasberg’s death in 1980. An Active member of Actors Equity, AFTRA, Screen Actors Guild and The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers since The 1950’s, He has taught and used method techniques as an actor, director and teacher for over 40 years. “ANCORA IMPARO” For a complete resume go to www.edkovens.com “I believe a teacher’s job is to recognize what is individual about a person and quickly and fully develop it. “Having watched him at the Actors Studio for a couple of years, he is one of the few people who did not service their own ego while criticizing others. His was a continual voice of reason." - from Actors Resource by Nathan Hull
”..a young baseball player doesn't go to the guy who scouts new talent to learn technique, he goes to his coach. My coach is Ed Kovens." - Michael Mariano (actor and acting teacher)
