The Professional Workshop is organized primarily for Professional Actors, who wish to enhance their training through the Method-oriented techniques as taught to Mr. Kovens by Lee Strasberg.
Beginners are mainly those in allied fields who now wish to enter another area of the business (i.e., models, dancers, singers, announcers, etc.) Most members of the class come through the recommendations of former students, agents and drama instructors Throughout the United States and Europe.
Telephone for an Interview:
Prospective students need only telephone for an interview at 212.567.6761.
After that interview, Mr. Kovens will decide if he wishes to work with you and will allow you to audit one (1) free class.
An "audition" is not required since it is not a test of talent or potential, but rather that the person has been "trained to audition."
Class time consists of four (4) hours weekly
. Two (2) hours are used for Technique: (i.e., sensory exercises, private moments, animal exercise, affective memories, etc. used with monologues & songs or arias, followed by the song & dance exercise and either/or improvisations, cold readings, character study or commercials);
and two (2) hours are devoted to Scene Study, (where class members are taught how to use those techniques.) Practice and rehearsals are on members' own time.
The fee for the class is two hundred ($200) dollars per month (4 weeks).
New members are accepted on a three (3)-month, (twelve (12)-week) trial basis.
Leaves of absence (during that period only) are given for work or illness of more than three (3) weeks' consecutive duration, and will be added on to the time paid for on return.
After the initial 12 weeks a private evaluation will be held. Members are then allowed to pay on a monthly basis if Mr. Kovens wishes to continue working with them. This monthly privilege is for life.
Missed classes may be made up by sitting in on other classes within the paid time period.
The classes are continuous throughout the year.
Class size is limited to 9-16 members.
Private coaching is available at $125/hour.
